Sitting down to rate this has me torn. I really love this series. The characters are great, the stories are creative, the humor is right up my alley (sick and juvenile). All of them, from the two "main" books (Critical Errors I and II) to the collection of short stories (d6) to the ones I've read individually, really are five stars in my book.

Here's where the "but" comes in. Yes, Clerical Error is more of the same. However, this one is perhaps the weakest of the installments. The humor was a little thin compared to others and a lot of it is a repeat of jokes in earlier ones.

The other "but" is that this one is perhaps the shortest of the short stories and so the value isn't there. A few bucks for a collection of these stories or the longer Critical Errors is a bargain. With the short stories, paying a few bucks for something I'll burn through in an hour or two leaves me feeling cheated. Especially with so many good to great novel length eBooks out there for the same price or less.

In short: story, characters, humor; five stars. Length, value, and comparison to other works by Bevan; three stars. Overall, four.

Clerical Error Caverns and Creatures edition by Robert Bevan Joan Reginaldo Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

Ok, this one was really good and I enjoyed it. Not as much as the rest of the stories though. The ending was too fast and abrupt.
I absolutely love these stories. I remember reading that the author was making character sheets for the party. it will be interesting to see how the adventurers have progressed.
Poor Dave. He just can't catch a break, and it's freaking hilarious. Another great romp through the C&C world of Bevan. If he keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them.
Robert has done it again, good story...little short, but I'll take what I can get. Glad to see Dave getting a little spot light, I know he is a support character, but I was glad to see him get some real story time.
Loved the story...but like a single dip hot fudge Sunday...it just isn't enough!
Keep it up Mr. Bevan
I had some mixed feelings about this. Zombie attack was brilliant, and this one seemed to have a preordained ending already built in, which didn't require the characters to do much of anything. On the other hand, it was still pretty funny, I really dig on the DnD humor, and the dirty jokes I can't write into my own books (kind of my guilty pleasure). Overall I liked it, but not as much as CF, CFII or Zombie Attack.

Thank you for this, Robert.
The Caverns and Creatures series has been an enjoyable experience for me as a DnD player. They are lighthearted, fun and and inexpensive. Clerical Error had a well developed story line (for the series - it's all relative) and interesting character development. I only gave it 4 stars because of slightly excessive foul language, but I get that this is how most young males might talk in this situation.
The series has been a great substitute for actual role playing sessions and is well worth the read if you like sci-fi / fantasy genres.
If you aren't familiar with Robert Bevan's satirical fantasy series, Caverns and Creatures, it would be worth your while to do so with Clerical Error. The story continues the often sophmoric misadventures of four gamer friends who become trapped in the lives of the characters they play. While the constant clowning of Cooper, the crude, incontinent orc barbarian is often the source of the problems faced by Tim the halfling thief, Julien the elf sorcerer and Dave the dwarven cleric, this story focuses on the particular problems of Dave, an atheist n our world, as he confronts the philosophical issues of living with an without divine power in a setting where the gods are real enough to cause trouble.
